WHO ARE THE “USEFUL IDIOTS”?
And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son in law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me. Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites (Neh. 13:28-29).
The Marathon Prayer Call of last week quoted five excerpts from the “Abuja Declarations 1989” to confirm the long-term agenda of the global Islamists to turn Nigeria into an Islamic Sultanate, prelude to their goal of transforming Africa into an Islamic continent. The Islamists are few in Nigeria, therefore, they require additional work force. They have succeeded in recruiting an array of supporters who blindly support the Islamist agenda without fully understanding the long-term consequence of their actions. To some of these hired hands, they are merely "playing politics”, doing “business”, or they are supporting their “religion”. Without these hired hands, the Islamists could not have come this far in advancing the agenda of the Islamic Brotherhood in Nigeria.
Most of the hired hands are well educated Nigerians, intelligent and internationally exposed people. They would feel greatly insulted if they were described as pawns, talk less of being called “useful idiots”.
The term “useful idiots” did not originate in Nigeria. The term was used for a foolish person whose views can be taken advantage of for political purposes, and it appeared in a British periodical as early as 1864. During the Cold War, it appeared in a June 1948 New York Times article on contemporary Italian politics. In 1955, it featured in an article in the American Federation of Labor News – Reporter to refer to Italians who supported Communist causes. Since then, it has become a common derogatory term for a naïve or uninformed person who is manipulated to advance a political cause or agenda without realizing they are being exploited against themselves.
In 1979, the Islamists came into power in Iran when Ayatollah Khomeini was installed as the supreme leader. Part of the people who participated in the protests that forced the Shah out of power were the “leftists” students. The leftists represent a political ideology that support radical change of societal hierarchies and are more commonly referred to as the “liberals”. When the Ayatollah arrived from Paris, the leftist students were prominent in the crowd that welcomed him. It was a partnership of strange bedfellows for “leftists” to support Islamists. According to Dr Jay Smith in a viral video circulating online, after the revolution had succeeded and the Islamists were firmly in power, they started to “expel, persecute, and even execute the leftist supporters. Roughly 2,000 to 3,000 were executed.” They were not the enemies of the revolution. They were the people who made the revolution possible. Dr Jay Smith added that once Khomeini had power, he did not need them anymore, and he did not politely ask them to leave. He killed them. The Islamists pitted the Tudeh Party, which was the largest group of the leftists against other leftist groups. When the Tudeh Party succeeded in dismantling the other groups, Khomeini descended on it and disbanded it, arrested its members and executed them. They were useful idiots.

This pattern has been followed by the Muslims for 1,400 years and there is no reason for them to change it in Nigeria. Presently, they are dangerously close to achieving their goal if they should return into power in 2027. If the Muslim-Muslim ticket should return to power, it might become statutory because the Muslim North will maintain it when it is the turn of the North to produce the president from 2031 – 2039. At that time, the country might face the possibility of both the president and vice president being Muslims from the North. Presently, it is a Southern Muslim paired with a Northern Muslim. It might get worse.
Tracing the history of Islam in 1,400 years, Dr Smith listed the four operational steps of the Muslims in taking over a country. These four steps are as follows:
1. Politics
2. Judiciary
3. Military
4. Education
The first step, political domination, has been achieved in Nigeria. With the advent of the Muslim-Muslim ticket in 2023 and its flagrant repeat in 2027, the Islamists have made a bold statement that they are in control of the politics of Nigeria. Presently, many politicians of southern extraction are inserting Muslim names in their identity as they contest. The message is simple, if they do not identify as Muslims, they might not secure the ticket to contest. There are still some politicians who do not carry Muslim names but that might change by 2031. It is interesting to note that it is Church leaders campaigning for them and defending the Muslim-Muslim ticket.
The takeover of the judiciary was the focus of the prayer call for last week. With the appointment of a Sharia lawyer/jurist as a Chief Justice of Nigeria some years ago, and the re-designation of Nigeria from its Common Law status to Common Law and Sharia jurisdiction, the judiciary now works for the Islamists. It no longer works for justice. A very good example is the governorship election in which fourth-place gubernatorial candidate was declared by the judiciary as the overall winner of an election. That was not democracy. That was Sharia.
The compromise in the judiciary is so bad that corrupt and notorious politicians openly state that if democracy should fail in Nigeria, the judiciary should be held responsible. The legal practitioners in Nigeria should call themselves to order or else, in the nearest future, there might be no legal profession in Nigeria, the way it is known today.
The performance of the military in the war against terror in Nigeria confirms that it has been infiltrated and seriously weakened from within. In many instances, distress calls do not receive prompt response from the military. The soldiers often arrive after the terrorists have invaded and gone away. Cases of ambush of senior military personnel and troops also lend credence to allegations that fifth columnists operate freely within the rank and files of the military. Terrorists are now known to operate within one kilometre of military installations without any challenge or retaliation from government forces.
Their last strategy is the takeover of the educational system to reshape the minds of the children. Presently, the stage has been set for this in Nigeria with the appointment in 2024 of a man who champions the “Islamization of Knowledge” as the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC). This is the body that develops the educational curriculum for schools. Islamization of Knowledge is designed to recast the whole idea of human knowledge from the standpoint of Islamic thought (Raji Alfaruqi). It opines that knowledge as we know it should be isolated from western or secular perspectives and be infused with Islamic elements (Naqib Al-Attos). This agenda might be subdued while waiting for the second term of the Muslim-Muslim ticket. If the Islamists return in 2027, they are certain that they would hold power until 2039. Except God intervenes, by 2039, the secularity of Nigeria would have been redefined.
The 2027 election is therefore very crucial not only for the survival of democracy in Nigeria, but also for the sustenance of freedom of worship and freedom of choice. This is the reason those Christians who are working for the Islamists under the guise of "playing politics”, or " doing business”, should reconsider their position. There is no amount of money that can compensate for freedom. When the Islamists finish with someone they consider a useful idiot, they do not give them a dignifying retirement benefit.
This matter is raised again in the hope that Christians would realize the seriousness of the threat posed by Islamists against the Church in Nigeria. It is deeply disturbing that some Christian leaders offer to defend and promote the Islamists under the guise of playing “politics”. It would be sad that a child of God is considered a “useful idiot”. There is no idiot in the family of God, because Christ has made us the wisdom of God and the righteousness of God (1 Cor. 1:30). Every child of God can think independently and avoid manipulation. When “Christians” act in a manner suggestive of idiocy, the implication is that they are no longer connected to Christ. The most common cause of such disconnection from Christ is the love of money. Any Christian who collects money to play politics has immediately come under the influence of Mammon and can no longer freely do the will of Christ. Matt. 6:24 states that no servant can serve two masters.
There are Christian leaders who see nothing wrong in supporting the Muslim-Muslim ticket. For such, 1 Tim. 4:2 appropriately responds that they are "Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron." These alerts are not attempts to condemn or ridicule other Christians. There is 1,400 years of historical evidence of the modus operandi of the Islamists, and from the information provided in this prayer call, they are following the same script in Nigeria. They can only succeed if Christians support them. Sadly, there are many Church leaders doing so.
This is the time for Christians to build unity and political consensus and agree on how to use their significant voting power to restore balance to the polity in Nigeria. The sponsors of Sharia must not be permitted to return to power in 2027. The most beneficial ideology for the country is democracy. Under democracy, Christians, Muslims, and traditionalists will live freely and practice their beliefs without molestation. Where people are murdered based on their faith, and they suffer discrimination and persecution, Christ-centred Christians should distance themselves from Islamist groups.
In his research on the 1,400 years history of Islam, Dr Jay Smith stated that Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran were Christian nations at one time. None of them is Christian now. Nigeria has the advantage of learning from their history. It would be disastrous if Nigeria should fall into the same pit they fell into. May God deliver Nigeria from useful idiots in the Church whose belly is their god. Amen.
